Product: Reap API (Payments API)
Who this is for: Operations teams who create payments from managed accounts.
What you will learn: How to save the parties you pay, what the add recipient form asks for and in what order, and why saving recipients in advance is worth doing.
Overview
A recipient is a party you pay. Recipients are saved against a managed account and reused, so their details only have to be entered once.
The Recipients tab holds everyone you have already registered. You can add a recipient there in advance, or create one on the fly while making a payment.
What can you see on the Recipients tab?
Every recipient you have registered for this managed account, listed with the details that matter when picking one: currency, bank country and payment network. Any column can be sorted, the list can be searched by name, and View opens a recipient's full record.
How do I add a recipient?
On the Recipients tab, select Add recipient. The form asks for things in a deliberate order, because the first two answers determine the rest of it.
- Currency. The currencies available to your account are listed. Search or pick from the list.
- Payment network. The options shown depend on how your account is configured, so this list is specific to you rather than a general list of networks.
- Display name (optional). A label to help you recognize this recipient in your dashboard.
- Recipient type. Whether you are paying a business or a person.
- Bank information. The required fields here follow from the currency and network you chose above, since different networks ask for different bank identifiers.
- Contact details. The recipient's country, address and city.
Select Confirm, and the recipient is saved and ready for future payments.
How do I use a saved recipient?
Saved recipients appear as a searchable list when you create a payment, so paying someone again is a matter of selecting a name rather than re-entering bank details.
💡 Add your recipients before payment day. Selecting a saved recipient is faster than filling in bank details under time pressure, and it removes the most common cause of failed payments: a typo in an account number.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to add a recipient before creating a payment?
No. You can create one while making a payment. Saving them in advance simply makes payment day faster and less error-prone.
The payment network I want isn't listed.
The networks shown depend on your account's configuration. Contact our support team if you need one that does not appear.
What is the display name for?
It is optional, and only for your own use. It helps you recognize a recipient in your dashboard when the registered legal name is not what you call them.
What details will I need before I start?
The currency, the payment network, the recipient's bank details, and their country, address and city. Which bank fields are required depends on the currency and network.
Are recipients shared across my managed accounts?
Recipients are saved against the managed account they were created in.
