Product: Reap API (Payment API)
Who this is for: Businesses running a payments program on Reap that make payments on behalf of their own customers.
What you will learn: How to create a managed account for one of your customers, what happens while they complete verification, and what to settle before you create your first one.
Overview
You create one managed account for each customer you make payments on behalf of. Each has its own dashboard, balances, recipients and credentials.
You create the account, but your customer completes their own verification. Until they do, the account exists but cannot send payments.
Before you create your first account
Decide whose terms your customers see. By default the registration link presents Reap's General Terms and Conditions and Managed Account Terms and Conditions to your customer. If you would rather present your own terms with Reap's embedded inside them, that can be arranged but needs Reap's approval first. Raise it with your Reap contact before launch, because it changes what your customers agree to at sign-up.
Creating the account
- In the Managed Accounts section, select Create Managed Account.
- Enter your customer's business name and country of operation, then select Continue.
- Copy the registration link the dashboard generates and store it somewhere safe.
- Send the link to your customer so they can complete their verification.
⚠️ The registration link is issued once. It is unique to that customer, it expires after seven days, and it cannot be generated again. Copy it and store it securely as soon as it appears, then send it to your customer promptly so the seven days are not spent sitting in someone's inbox.
While your customer verifies
The account appears in your managed accounts list straight away, and its status tracks your customer's progress:
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Invited | The account exists and the link has been issued. Your customer has not completed verification yet. |
| Under review | Your customer has submitted their details and verification is in progress. |
| Active | Verification succeeded. The account can now be funded and used to send payments. |
| Rejected | Verification was not successful. |
Activation is reflected within hours or days after your customer submits, rather than immediately. Create accounts and send links well ahead of the date you need to pay anyone.
The status tabs at the top of the managed accounts list let you see at a glance how many accounts are sitting at each stage.
Frequently Asked Questions
My customer's registration link has expired. Can I resend it?
No. The link is unique, expires after seven days, and cannot be generated again. Contact our support team if a link expired before your customer used it.
How do I see which customers still need to complete verification?
Use the Invited tab on the managed accounts list. Anyone who has submitted but is still being checked appears under Under review.
How long does verification take?
Activation is usually reflected within hours or days of your customer submitting their details, not immediately.
Why can't I send a payment from an account I just created?
Only an Active account can send payments. A newly created account stays Invited until your customer completes verification through the registration link.
Can my customers see our own terms rather than Reap's?
Yes, with prior approval. The registration link presents Reap's terms by default. Presenting your own with Reap's embedded is possible but must be agreed with Reap before you go live.
